01 Transfagarasan, Romania

Transfagarasan is spectacular drive in Romania - whether your are climbing or twirling or descending you pass right through Moldoveanu and Negoiu - the highest peaks in Fagaras Mountains - an drive through five tunnels, 27 viaducts and 831 small bridges - covering a distance of just 71 miles or 114 km - the drive begins from Cartisoara which is about 30 miles from Sibiu and ends at Curtea de Arges 95 miles from Bucharest. The drive could take about three hours if you don't stop anywhere - which is absolutely impossible as every turn opens up new vistas. Interesting that Transfagarasan with its many hairpin bends was engineered to handle heavy military vehicles.
